“Dressing well has always been my saving grace. It helps me feel like myself and provides a sense of liberation.”- me.
From a young age, I’ve always had a strong sense of personal style. Back then, I didn’t fully understand it, but I knew that wearing nice clothes made me happy! I vividly remember my first summer outfit. It was an oversize sunflower-yellow shirt paired with coral sunglasses. My dad bought them from a closing-down sale when I was in Year 6 at junior school. I felt cool, playful and different—even if no one else noticed, I couldn’t get enough of it.

My first purchase from my local market
I used to walk up and down my the iconic Walthamstow market looking for cheap and colourful items with my saved pocket money, My dad used to give me 50p every day after a shift as a milk man, sometimes, i’d head stasight to the corner shop for some penny sweets and sometimes I would save it to buy something. I remember, my first independent purchase with my saved money was was a Miss Selfridge orange maxi silky dress. I didn’t know how to wear it as it was a bit revealing but I loved the colour. I remember going home and trying it on for hours. I was 11 and paid £5 for that dress.

Style grew with me as I transitioned from a little girl to a young woman. It became a crucial means of self-expression and a mental refuge amidst the inevitable dramas of growing up. Whenever I felt emotional or overwhelmed, I found solace in my wardrobe. I would choose my outfit based on my mood, deciding whether I wanted to project a structured look or a more laid-back vibe.
Working within Fashion
My first work experience was at 15 in Ravels shoe shop—any 80/90s kids remember it? It was the place to splurge on a high-quality pair of shoes. While my friends opted for office jobs in banks and law firms, I was drawn to something more creative. I loved browsing the shoe catalogues, mentally matching each pair with potential outfits. Though, I couldn’t afford the shoes, I was allowed one pair for my uniform. After much deliberation, I picked a pair of pumps that would complement most of my wardrobe!

Fast-forwarding a decade, I’ve had the great fortune to work with independent designers and renowned luxury brands like Iceberg, Dior, and Gucci at top locations such as Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Harrods, and New Bond Street. Working in the world of luxury fashion opened my eyes to a whole new perspective on style—especially the art of refinement.

I viewed fashion through a unique lens. Whenever a new collection arrived, I would meticulously examine the details, cuts, and precision. Serving customers from around the globe, I observed how they paired different items. Given the chance, I would ask about the occasion and their preference for certain cuts. It was definitely an eye-opener.
Throughout this blog, I will share why I fell in love with the art of fashion, how it helps me navigate life’s struggles, and the joy it brings me, alongside all the other things that keep me busy!
