As the weather gets warmer, I tend to opt for a lighter base for my skin.
I’ve always enjoyed wearing colour, especially since I keep up a fairly good skincare routine but I do switch up my formulas depending on the season.
Right now, it’s quite hot in London, so I’ve moved over to a tinted moisturiser instead of my usual semi-full coverage. I was previously using Trinny London.
I actually prefer a lighter base, it gives a more natural look and adds a healthy radiance, especially with some warm sun.
I also stop using rich moisturisers around this time and switch to gel formulas, particularly in my night routine. With the humidity, I tend to break out if I stick with heavier creams.
Over the years, I’ve tried and tested quite a few tinted moisturisers. Below are my honest opinions based on my combination skin, oily T-zone and prone to breakouts.
Current Favourite: Dr.Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 50
This feels super soft on the skin, and what I love most is that it includes glycerin for hydration and niacinamide for brightening. It leaves my skin smooth, slightly mattified, and the texture is really lovely. It’s fab because you’re getting both skincare and coverage in one and spf 50!.
Cons: The shades are quite limited, but that’s about it!

Another Favourite: NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser
I’ve used NARS foundations in the past and always loved the formulas, so I decided to try the tinted moisturiser after hearing good things. I started with a sample and then invested in the full size. It’s light, pigmented, and hydrating, with vitamin C for brightening and SPF 30.
Although SPF 30 is decent, I top it up with SPF 50 since I’m prone to hyperpigmentation. The texture works really well on my oily skin, and I didn’t experience any breakouts. My skin felt glowy and fresh. NARS also has a great shade range, I use Sydney, so I like to wear it on days when I want that perfect match.
Cons: SPF could be higher for me, but that’s it.

This was given to me by my sister (we’re the same shade), and I decided to give it a go. At first, it felt okay, but as the day went on, it became too oily for me and emphasised my smile lines. I don’t think it’s suited to oily skin. The coverage is light, which I don’t mind, but overall the formula just wasn’t for me, and it doesn’t contain SPF.
I do think it would look radiant on normal or combination skin.
Just not for me.

Essence Hydro Hero 24 hr Tinted Moisturiser.
This one isn’t widely available, but it’s actually what made me switch to tinted moisturisers in the first place. It was so hydrating, light, and left a natural glow on my skin. The formula is impressive, no oil, fragrance, alcohol, or silicones, and made with 88% natural ingredients. Sounds like a dream, right?

I stocked up, but my local store closed and I haven’t been able to find my shade easily online since. Boohoo! The price was amazing too, around £8.00!
Cons: Hard to find. SPF is only 15.
Finding the right base for oily skin in warmer weather can be a process, but when it works, it really shows. A lightweight formula with the right skincare benefits makes all the difference. If you’re like me and want something light but still want to feel put together, a good tinted base with added skincare benefits can be a real game changer. I’d love to hear what your go-to summer base is drop it in the comments.
